Perfect Songs - Battez Vouz

brigitte, french pop
Le Hipsters

I love French pop, mainly from the 60s, but there are things from different eras I like as well. This one song captures just about everything, from every era that I love about the French. Whenever it comes on, I wind up playing it least twice because it's so damn perfect. It's Brigitte's "Battez Vouz."

I don't dance (in public or sober) but this gets me moving no matter what. It's almost like it's 3 different songs in one, starting with a very 60s, pulpy mysterious vibe, it has some sort of avant garde bridge in the middle and then that fucking disco pop breakdown at the end sends it over the top. And yet it's a very simple tune. I haven't the foggiest clue what the song is about because as far as I'm concerned it's just about being awesome. And if you're like me and need to hear it again, now, try this other, stripped down version which is even cooler somehow. Just watch how that one girl dances at the end. That's pure joy in the moment right there (or she's really high, but either way).
